While I don’t follow baseball closely, I sit on our couch next to someone who does. He gets excited and exasperated and I take more interest in watching him than the game. However, when I read this article on a strategic decision made by a baseball player, that achieved a collective purpose but could have meant the loss of a significant bonus, I paid attention. It reminds me of Morgan Housel (author of “The Psychology of Money”)’s attitude towards investing: commit to a strategy to achieve pretty good returns and try to repeat that for a long period of time. I guess what makes for successful investing also makes for a successful career in sports.
