Are You About to Get Married? It’s Time to Have the ‘Money Talk’
Couples often have trouble working together and managing their money. The June edition of the UPotential webinar series entitled “Marriage Vows, Instead of Money Woes” discussed some of the reasons why money breaks up so many relationships and offers some suggestions to help couples establish a good money partnership or repair a poor one. This article encourages couples to engage in money discussions when the relationship is good and try to set parameters that can pave the way forward. It also encourages parents to gently nudge their children towards healthy money discussions with their future partners. In fact, I have often done financial plans for the children of clients who just need to understand the limitations of their affordable lifestyle and create the foundation from which they can make their dreams come true.
